Wales' health digitalization agency intends to extend its cloud migration contract.

Digital Health & Care Wales (DHCW), a Special Health Authority established to provide digital and data services for the National Health Service in Wales, announced yesterday that it will extend a contract with cloud provider CDW Limited to finish up a cloud migration process.

The details of the extension are laid out on a modification notice posted on Find a Tender.

The initial contract included the provision of a Tier III data center dubbed DC1, but the extension will move all on-premises servers at DC1 to cloud storage.

DCHW hopes that it will have fully transitioned to cloud hosting and storage by October 2028, with a “diminishing on-premises footprint between now and then.”

The original contract ran from February 2021 to February 2026 for a period of five years and was worth £3.9 million excluding VAT, but the extension will push the end-date back to February 2029 and bring the total up by £1.6 million.

CDW Limited is a UK-based service provider. Founded in 1984, it provides tech to a variety of sectors in the UK and elsewhere.

In August, the company just snagged a £25 million ($33.2m) colocation contract with Coventry University for the provision of colocation data center services.
