Digital Realty has joined forces with high-performance computing (HPC) cloud specialist Nimbix to offer HPC solutions to the oil and gas industry from Digital Realty’s facilities in Dallas and Houston, Texas.

Oil and gas companies typically use HPC to analyze large amounts of geological data and Nimbix’ HPC-as-a-Service solution is aimed at enabling them to make more effective operational decisions.

HPC cloud solutions are pitched as an alternative to legacy IT because they are quick to deploy, easy to scale and require less investment.

The Nimbix service should free companies from having to manage HPC environments and resources, according to Steve Hebert, Nimbix chief executive officer.

"Clients who need immediate, high-performing computing solutions for shorter time frames will realize significant efficiencies," Hebert said.

Matt Miszewski, Digital Realty SVP of sales and marketing said the alliance was a natural progression of the company’s existing support to the oil and gas industry.

"Our alliance with Nimbix facilitates the cost-effective generation, analysis, and sharing of geophysical data."
