Michael Liberte from Facebook talks about the changing relationship between hardware and software
In this interview Michael Liberte, head of Infra Product Partnerships at Facebook, talks about the sad fate of traditional hardware vendors in hyperscale environments. He says some companies have been “pushed out” of the data center because they don’t understand the needs of companies like Facebook.
Earlier this month, the social networking giant launched a compatibility lab for infrastructure software at Melno Park, offering opportunity to test server applications on open source hardware. According to Liberte, this should eliminate much of the risk associated with deploying Open Compute equipment in the enterprise.
The conversation took place at the DCD Colo + Cloud conference in Dallas.
