DC Blox has acquired land in High Point, North Carolina with the aim of building a data center in the city.

The company is planning to build up to 54,000 square foot (5,000 sq m) of data hall space with 18MW of power capacity on the 14-acre site at Sheraton Court and Piedmont Parkway in the Piedmont Centre business park in High Point.

The company reportedly paid $1.5 million for the land, and the city and county have agreed to property tax rate reductions of 50 percent over a period of 10-17 years. The company has been looking at buying the plot and negotiating tax incentives since last year.

“The High Point Economic Development Corporation, the Guilford County Economic Development Alliance, the City of High Point and Guilford County have been great partners supporting and enabling DC Blox to develop a new Tier III data center in this location, approving tax incentives which will accelerate growth for DC Blox and our customers,” said DC Blox CEO Jeff Uphue.

“When complete, our $305 million investment will enable enterprise businesses across industries, local and state government agencies, higher education institutions and managed service providers across North Carolina with major market capabilities, connectivity solutions and highly reliable services to enable effective digital transformation.”

DC Blox builds new facilities to Tier III specifications across the Southeastern United States and has aims to develop more data centers across the region. The company currently has two data centers in Alabama plus facilities in Georgia and Tennessee, with another under construction in South Carolina, and has been busy in 2021.

It raised $187 million in long-term financing from Post Road Group and Bain Capital, announced an expansion of its Birmingham, Alabama data center, and last month the company broke ground on its 18MW facility in Greenville, South Carolina.
