A data center could come to Statesville, North Carolina.

On October 6, the Statesville City Council passed a resolution fixing a date of October 20, 2025 for a public hearing concerning the annexation of 350 acres of land along Stamey Farm Road and Hickory Highway for a potential data center use.

This is in spite of opposition expressed by local citizens concerned about the facility’s electricity and water usage.

The Council was originally set to discuss the proposal on October 6, but the required public notice for the newspaper was not placed in time.

The land is currently owned by the Stamey Land Company.

The site plan submitted by the applicant, Compass Datacenters, shows that the data center would consist of five data centers, each of which would offer around 270,000 sq ft (25,083 sqm) of space.

Power would come from a substation belonging to Duke Energy located nearby to the site. Compass has previously stated that the data center will be air-cooled to reduce water usage.

The company already operates a data center campus in North Carolina, located in the state’s capital city, Raleigh. According to its website, the facility is fully leased.

Statesville is located north of Charlotte, which is North Carolina’s most populous city and the state’s data center hotspot.
