CyrusOne has broken ground on a data center in New Albany, Ohio.

Information about the COL-1 facility is sparse. It will be located at 12181 Jug St., however, the proposed capacity, development timeline, and size were not disclosed.

Plans for the facility’s development were announced in April of last year. Reporting at the time indicated that the company planned to spend $50 million on acquiring the land and $100m building the data center, and that it had been awarded a ten-year, 75 percent data center sales tax exemption valued at $5.4m by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

CyrusOne’s LinkedIn post states that Hitt Contracting will be responsible for the facility’s construction.

New Albany is a suburb of Columbus, Ohio’s state capital. The city has seen a spate of interest from the data center industry. Just two weeks ago, data center operator Karis Critical purchased 115 acres of land in the suburb; last month, Vantage topped out its second building at its campus; and in June, Google acquired 85 acres for a potential facility.

CyrusOne is owned by private equity firm KKR and operates more than 50 data centers across the US and Europe. It currently has three facilities located around Cincinnati, a city in Ohio that borders Kentucky.
