Local authorities in Warrenton, located west of St. Louis, Missouri, may approve a data center project proposed by data center and cloud firm Crusoe.

On January 20, the Warrenton Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit and site plan for a data center at 22151 NW Service Road Warrenton.

Some of these conditions include the addition of more trees to mitigate the data center’s visual impact; shorter poles to mitigate any lighting impacts; and noise limits.

Crusoe will also need to secure a land disturbance review and several permits before construction is set to go ahead, according to a statement made by Warrenton City Administration Brandie Walters to Fox 2.

The campus will be built on an approximately 340-acre land parcel, and it will consist of two 805,000 sq ft (74,786 sqm) data center buildings and a 40,000 sq ft (3,716 sqm) administration building.

Details about the facility’s capacity were not disclosed. It's unclear if this facility will serve Crusoe's own cloud or known partners such as Oracle or OpenAI.

Crusoe launched in 2018 as a cryptomining business that deployed containerized data centers to oil wells to harness natural gas that would otherwise be "flared off" and wasted. It has since pivoted to developing permanent data centers for itself and others, offering AI cloud services, and has divested its crypto operations.

The company made headlines in January 2025 when it announced that it would be a part of Stargate LLC alongside AI giant OpenAI and Japanese investment firm Softbank. The first phase of its 1.2GW campus in Abilene, Texas, went live in September 2025.

Crusoe is also planning a 1.8GW campus in Wyoming and natural gas-powered data centers in Alberta, Canada. It recently partnered with US energy storage firm Energy Vault to deploy modular data centers at the latter's technology center in Snyder, Texas.

The company currently operates four cloud regions across the US and Europe: us-northcentral1-a, us-east1-a, us-southcentral1-a, and eu-iceland1-a. The company has partnered with Digital Realty and Equinix in the US and atNorth in Iceland. It has also announced plans to lease a data center from Polar in Norway.
