AI Cloud and data center firm Crusoe has acquired Atero, an Israeli company specializing in GPU management and memory optimization for AI workloads.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. The acquisition sees Atero’s Tel Aviv headquarters become Crusoe’s first Middle East office, which the neocloud service provider said would allow it to tap into a diverse talent pool and serve new customers across the region.

Founded in 2024 by Alon Yariv and Omer Landau, Atero’s tech is designed to boost GPU utilization and efficiency for AI workloads. Its Unified Memory architecture is set to be combined with Crusoe’s cloud technology stack to improve performance and speed for customers.

“Atero's low-level expertise in high-performance computing infrastructure will be instrumental in Crusoe delivering unmatched performance, scale, reliability, and efficiency in our GPU clusters,” said Chase Lochmiller, co-founder and CEO of Crusoe.

“By optimizing memory utilization, we can ensure our customers have their data in the right place at the right time to maximize GPU utilization rates and get more out of the money they spend on compute.”

Staff at Atero will join Crusoe's engineering team to accelerate the development of Crusoe Cloud's managed services offerings.

They join a company that started out in cryptomining, placing its data centers near oil and gas pipelines, but has since shifted to AI infrastructure.

In 2023, the company launched a GPU cloud service from colocation facilities and has since pivoted away from crypto, selling that business to NYDIG. The firm secured a $225 million credit facility back in March to support the expansion of its cloud platform, providing companies with infrastructure they can rent to power their AI workloads. Crusoe is also currently building a data center campus in Texas alongside Oracle for OpenAI’s Stargate project.
