Gothenburg utility Göteborg Energi is set to open its second data center in the summer of 2018.

The Swedish energy company’s telco subsidiary, GothNet, has turned to Coromatic to design, build and deploy the facility.

“At the moment we have a data center, but we need to be able to offer our customers equipment in more places,” Sofia Söder, CEO of GothNet, said (translated).

“By building a new facility, we not only increase the capacity but also increase redundancy and security for our customers.”

The upcoming data center, located on Hisingen island in Gothenburg, will be built in stages using modular construction, with plans to expand as demand increases.

“We will use green electricity and the heat generated will be recovered for our district heating network,” Söder said. “A fully-expanded data center can deliver about 4 gigawatt hours of thermal energy, which is enough to heat up to 200 homes.”

Country manager for Coromatic Sweden, Thomas Wunger, said (translated): “We are of course very pleased with the trust that Göteborg Energi has given us. We are looking forward to helping to further strengthen the infrastructure in Gothenburg and do it in a climate-friendly manner.

“By building the data center in different modules, it will be easy to change capacity as demand increases.”
