A construction worker was killed at the site of a data center project in Medina County, Texas.

On Monday morning, the employee was hit by an articulating truck but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The worker was employed by Turner Construction, which was contracted by Rowan Digital Infrastructure for the facility.

Turner has issued a statement to DCD, saying: “Our deepest sympathies go out to the individual’s family, loved ones, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

“We are committed to understanding how this happened to ensure an incident like this never occurs again. All work on site was suspended as we work with the authorities in a comprehensive investigation.”

The 440-acre development outside San Antonio belongs to Rowan Digital Infrastructure, an American data center company established by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and Birch Infrastructure in 2021. Groundworks started in August.

Chief data center officer for Rowan Digital Infrastructure, Dan McNary, also released a statement: “Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends, and colleagues, and we are offering support to all those affected by this tragedy.

“Safety is always our highest priority, and we are doing everything we can to support our general contractor, who is coordinating with the appropriate authorities on a full investigation.”
