Croney's role will see him oversee Comcast's residential and commercial connectivity businesses, including broadband, wireless, and its entertainment distribution platforms.

He's currently serving as chief operating officer of connectivity and platforms. He's previously served as chief financial officer of connectivity and platforms. He's also held leadership roles in finance, operations, and general management across the company.

“Steve Croney is exactly the right leader for the future. He is a trusted and accomplished executive who has been instrumental in advancing our operational transformation. Steve has a clear vision, and is already leading with focus and urgency, while ensuring we are well-positioned for the opportunities ahead," said Brian Roberts, chairman and CEO, and Mike Cavanagh, president, Comcast Corporation in a joint statement.

His appointment to the role comes as Comcast reported its Q3 earnings this week, where it notably shed broadband subscribers.

For the quarter, Comcast lost 104,000 broadband subs (including 91,000 residential and 13,000 business), lowering its total subscriber base to 31.43 million. Comcast has suffered subscriber losses in the broadband market to rivals such as AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

Comcast's connectivity and platforms unit posted revenue of $17.6 billion for the quarter, which was down 1.5 percent year on year.

The company did, however, add a record 414,000 mobile line subscribers during the quarter, taking this total to 8.94 million.

It was reported last month that the company is planning to cut jobs as part of plans to centralize operations and boost its broadband business.
