Quebec-based colocation provider COLO-D has invested more than CAD$35m (US$32.95m) in a carrier-neutral data center which it said will “revolutionize” data center services in Quebec.

The data center is located in Drummondville, Quebec, covering over 100,000 sq ft of floor space and providing 6MW of electrical power to the company’s clientele.

COLO-D said it is Quebec’s largest carrier-neutral data center, and that it offers “a new ecosystem” for companies seeking colocation hosting solutions, for IT service providers and cloud computing services, and for Internet access providers and telecommunications operators.

COLO-D added its proximity to the province's two largest cities, Quebec City and Montreal, will allow the company to provide a platform that deploys its clients' crucial applications in synchronous replication mode, with a latency of less than 2ms. The data center will be certified Tier III.

Patrick David, CEO of COLO-D, said the company was addressing “a desperate need” for a new colocation data center in the province, particularly within 100km of Montreal.

“Many businesses in Quebec currently have their data hosted in the greater Toronto area,” David said.

“In Quebec, 90% of the supply is in the Montreal region. COLO-D is meeting the needs of businesses looking for more flexibility and advanced high-quality data center solutions outside of Montreal or Quebec City, in order to enhance the quality of their data center services.”
