Cisco's "Unified Computing System" announcement has attracted partners including Intel, Microsoft, EMC and VMWare.

On the software and services side Cisco's announcement will include contributions from the CEOs of Accenture and BMC.

The rumour mill has been in overdrive with most speculation surrounding a move into server sales by the networking giant or the announcement of a some form of consolidated server/switch product range.

The event is scheduled for 3pm GMT today. The agenda for today's announcement includes an introduction by Cisco CEO John Chambers, followed by a contribution by Intel CEO Paul Otellini. Microsoft president BoB Muglia will also be present.
