Construction company Budimex has declared its interest in owning and operating its own data center, and is looking at sites in Poland.

In an interview with xyz.pl, the firm’s operations director of infrastructure and general construction, Cezary Łysenko, said that it is in talks with international technology companies, including Microsoft and Google, to ensure that such a project is operationally stable and scalable.

Łysenko did not specify the size of the data center Budimex is interested in building, or how advanced its discussions were with potential partners. DCD has approached the firm for clarification.

In a statement provided to DCD, Budimex said that the discussions are currently "general in nature and focus primarily on exchanging experiences and analyzing market potential." In addition, Budimex confirmed that they are not yet announcing specific investment or location plans for any data center projects.

“We want to have our own data center, and we’re working towards that goal,” said Łysenko. “A prerequisite for implementing the project is collaboration with a global cloud infrastructure provider that ensures scale and operational stability. This is an essential element of such an undertaking. Therefore, we are in talks with giants like Microsoft, Google, and other entities involved in data distribution.”

Budimex is one of Poland’s largest construction firms, commanding an operating profit of PLN 892 million ($244m) in 2025. In a separate interview with ISBtech.pl, Łysenko signaled the firm’s openness to building a data center hub, and said the company had also begun scouting potential new sites for data center developments across Poland.

“We have verified the market demand for this type of investment and know it has a future,” Łysenko said, though he added that Budimex was mindful of the challenges associated with building data centers, including sourcing large amounts of electrical power for the site.

“We are ready to provide the client with a comprehensive, turnkey offer that addresses the risks. The investment we are discussing can be divided into several stages with relatively high capacity. Therefore, we are prepared for any market demand that may arise.”

Up until recently, Budimex’s participation in the data center market has been limited and poorly publicized. Projects that the firm has been involved with include an unnamed PLN 2 billion ($547m) development outside Warsaw announced in February 2025, and an "IT center” for Poland’s Ministry of Finance in 2023.

Recent months, however, have seen Budimex allude to a growing interest in participating in data center projects, including a declaration by its director of investment and data center development outlining interest in investing in the Spanish market and comments by its president that the sector presented new diversification opportunities for the company.
