Jorge Azcón announces the Box2bit investment

Known as Proyecto Ebro, construction work on the site is expected to start in Q4 2025, and the build is likely to take four years. Technical details of the data center have not been shared.

News of the development was announced by Jorge Azcón, president of the government of Aragon, who said it would be "transformative for the region" because "it will provide clear added value to our economy and will strengthen the powerful Aragonese technology sector, which is already a reference not only in Spain, but also internationally."

More than 1,950 construction and operational jobs will be created as part of the project, Box2Bit said.

The company describes itself as a green data center developer focused on building on the Iberian Peninsula.

Backed by power company Capital Energy, Box2bit was founded in 2021, and a year later announced it intended to spend €3 billion ($3.26bn) building two data centers in the Castilla-La Mancha region of Spain.

In total, the company is aiming to bring 2GW of data center capacity online, and says its facilities will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

Azcón added: "The implementation of this project will not only mean a large direct investment and the creation of new jobs for the community, but will also continue to put Aragon on the international map of Cloud regions.”
