The Bifrost Cable System landed in Davao, Philippines on August 7.
The CLS, dubbed the Davao International Cable Landing Station, is operated by Filipino domestic telco Converge ICT Solutions. This will be Bifrost’s only CLS in the Philippines.
The 19,888 km (12,357 miles) Bifrost Cable System connects Singapore to the western US through the Java and Celebes seas with branching lines extending to Guam, Mexico, and the Philippines. The cable's capacity is set to be 10.4Tbps.
Developed in partnership with Keppel, Amazon, Meta, and Telkom Indonesia, the cable, which was announced in 2021, was originally scheduled to be operational by Q2 2024 but has since been pushed back to the second half of 2025.
The cable’s CLS in Manado-Minahasa, Indonesia, became operational in July of this year. One of Bifrost’s two American stations in Winema, Oregon, became operational in May.
CEO of Converge, Dennis Anthony Uy, said: “With this critical infrastructure in place, we are not only enabling digital transformation but also creating new trade pathways and opportunities for the Philippines.”
Davao, a city on the southern island of Mindanao, is home to cable landing stations for the SEA-US and the ACC-1 cables.
