Malaysian colocation firm Basis Bay has launched a new data center outside Kuala Lumpur in Cyberjaya.

Cyberjaya DC2 was officially launched earlier this month. Developed through a strategic partnership with ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC), plans for the 20MW campus were first announced in 2023 with a planned 2024 launch date.

At the launch event, Malaysia’s Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, said: “I am proud to see a Malaysian-grown company like Basis Bay taking bold strides on the global stage. The Cyberjaya DC2 proves that our nation has the talent and determination to build and operate a world-class infrastructure, ensuring that our critical data remains secure within our own borders. In short, this is a classic example of ‘Made by Malaysians, Made in Malaysia’.”

Up to two buildings are planned for the site. A room-mounted solar system has also been deployed.

The second building, STT Kuala Lumpur 1, will serve hyperscalers. Construction on the 14MW facility was originally due to be completed in 2025.

Founded in 1996, Basis Bay provides data center and cloud services, as well as facility management and consulting.

The company operates another facility in CyberJaya. That four-story facility was completed in 2009. Basis Bay had long leased the site from Keppel, but acquired it from the landlord in early 2025.

Basis Bay also operates two facilities in the Glenmarie area of Kuala Lumpur and has plans for facilities in the NCER area of northern Malaysia and Johor.
