Energy management vendor Schneider Electric is to build two eco-friendly M1 containerized data centers for Chinese web service giant Baidu.

As the world’s biggest Chinese search engine and website provider, Baidu invited tenders for a fast build, low input high capacity system, which Schneider said it won on the strength of its standard, modular pre-fabricated systems.

Baidu’s specifications called for an M1 data center with energy saving, performance enhancing systems, such as In-Row air conditioning and integrated data center infrastructure management (DCIM) software.

It also tendered for IT cabinets, cable management and fire suppression and access security.

Schneider will also supply its uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for power management.

The pre-fab data center modules will also be pre-installed with Schneider’s own data management systems.

Schneider Electric has designed and manufactured two prefabricated modules, with each due to be delivered as a complete system capable of operating in isolation.

The IT infrastructure is to be preinstalled as Baidu has specified a demand for quick installation.

The modules will be made with insulated, weather proof wall panels that are designed to withstand any environment.

With the Chinese economy the second largest in the world and growing at 7.5% annually, the Baidu tender emphasized the need for a data center infrastructure that can be both constructed rapidly, upgraded easily and able to adapt for future circumstances.

Schneider has previously provided IT cabinets and UPS systems for Baidu’s Yangquan data center and been a tailored cabinet vendor for Baidu’s open-sourcing Scorpio Plan.

“The construction of this data centre is essential to meet changing consumer trends,” Dr Chenhong Huang, Schneider Electric’s senior VP said.

“The need for speed, cost control and performance in data management is ever growing. Schneider Electric’s prefabricated data center solution is the data center in the future.”
