Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched the latest generation of its Graviton CPUs.

Dubbed Graviton5, each chip has 192 cores with an "efficient design" that reduces inter-core communication latency by up to 33 percent, and a five times larger cache than the previous generation, enabling customers to scale up workloads while reducing infrastructure costs.

Like AWS' newest Trainium chip, Graviton5 was manufactured using 3nm technology.

AWS has also increased the network and storage bandwidth of the CPU, with up to 15 percent higher network bandwidth and 20 percent higher Amazon Elastic Block Store bandwidth on average.

According to AWS, the Graviton5-based EC2 M9g instances can deliver up to 25 percent higher performance than the previous generation.

Graviton5-based M9g instances, which are designed for general-purpose workloads, are currently available in preview, while C9g instances for compute-intensive workloads and R9g instances for memory-intensive workloads are planned for 2026.

The new CPU is the latest hardware announcement from the AWS Re:Invent 2025 conference in Vegas. Earlier this week, AWS revealed that its Trainium3 AI chips were now generally available, and teased plans for its Trainium4 chip.
