Australian data center operator CDC is planning a new campus outside Perth, Western Australia.

“In collaboration with our customers and partners, CDC is preparing to develop WA’s largest AI and advanced technology data centre campus, delivering up to 200MW of high-density capacity upon completion,” the company said this week.

AFR reports CDC (aka Canberra Data Centres) aims to invest AU$415 million ($270.2m) in the first stage of the development in Maddington, 20 kilometres south-east of central Perth. The site will be operational in 2026.

The campus will offer support for liquid cooling and utilize CDC’s closed-loop system that features zero water consumption for primary cooling.

CDC CEO and founder, Greg Boorer, said: “Western Australia is an increasingly important region for national and regional security, and the future of AUKUS. We are looking forward to ensuring such customers have the capabilities in place where and when they need them to deliver on their critical missions and goals.”

AUKUS is a trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The agreement includes Australia buying nuclear submarines, as well as collaborating on quantum technologies, AI, and defense.

Boorer continued: “Our vision for this project is to deliver more than just a data center. We are envisioning a comprehensive technology campus, including state-of-the-art facilities, with the highest power densities for AI workloads at scale, secure office space, and a range of amenities designed to meet the diverse needs of our customers.”

Founded in 2007, Canberra Data Centres (CDC) has nearly 20 sites in operation and development across Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and Auckland, New Zealand.

According to investor Infratil’s most recent results, CDC has 302MW of data center capacity in operation, with 388MW in development across Melbourne (121MW), Sydney (158MW), Canberra (39MW), and New Zealand (70MW) set to go within 18 months. The company’s future development pipeline now totals a further 1.6GW out to 2034.
