Australian Internet Service Provider iiNet has blamed a major outage on "extreme weather."

Users have not been able to access iiNet website and iiNet domain email services since Christmas Eve due to a heatwave at the company's data center in Perth, iiNet owner TPG Telecom said.

The city experienced the hottest Christmas day on record, a symptom of anthropogenic climate change.

The heatwave has led to power outages across Perth.

With four straight days of above 40°C (104°F) temperatures so far, and thousands without power, Energy Minister Bill Johnston apologized for the blackouts.

Grid repairs will take some time due to concerns about fire risk, he said. "Work that Western Power does has to be delayed … because of the bushfire risks... we don't want to start fires, and so therefore we make sure we do this in coordination."
