AT&T has been selected as the official connectivity partner for the US Open tennis tournament in New York.

The partnership, announced by the USTA and AT&T, will see the mobile carrier provide its mobile network offering over the course of the next five years.

The US Open is one of the four major tennis events in the professional game and is hosted at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York City.

The agreement will see AT&T's distributed antenna system (DAS) operating as the neutral-host network carrying wireless traffic across Arthur Ashe Stadium and the grounds.

AT&T's network will provide connectivity for ticket scanners, hotspots, and backup phones on-site.

The telco said it will provide connectivity to the event across wireless, wireline, and satellite, though it didn't specify any details on the satellite coverage. AT&T is notably an investor in satellite operator AST SpaceMobile, which is currently looking to launch and operate its non-geostationary orbit (NGSO) satellite system in low Earth orbit (LEO).

The carrier added that it's working closely with the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center to enhance the network at the venue ahead of next year's tournament, noting that further upgrades will arrive.

"AT&T gives us the network and the investment to deliver the highest level of service to everyone who comes through the gates at the US Open, and we’re thrilled to have them as our partner for both the present and the future of our event," said Deanne Pownall, managing director, corporate partnerships, USTA.
