Atmosphere Data Centers, a new US-based operator, has secured equity investment.
The company this week announced it has secured a “significant strategic growth investment” from AGC Equity Partners, a global institutional investment firm. Terms of the investment weren’t shared.
The capital will accelerate Atmosphere’s expansion, including site acquisitions, construction, and strategic partnerships.
“This investment represents a major milestone for Atmosphere,” said Chuck McBride, CEO of Atmosphere Data Centers. “We’re thrilled to partner with AGC Equity Partners, a world-class institutional investor that shares our commitment to innovation, efficiency, and long-term value creation. Their support provides the capital and credibility we need to scale quickly while continuing to deliver on the evolving needs of our customers.”
Atmosphere said it has secured power and land positions in the “world’s top data center market as well as multiple Tier II and Tier III locations.”
On its website, the company lists projects in Maryland, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Missouri.
Edward Talbot, managing director at AGC Equity Partners, added: “We are excited to partner with Atmosphere at this critical stage of growth. The demand for AI-optimized, high-performance digital infrastructure continues to accelerate, and we believe Atmosphere is uniquely positioned to meet that demand through its combination of market insight, development capability, and strategic vision. We look forward to supporting the team as they scale the platform nationally.”
Guggenheim Securities acted as exclusive financial advisor to Atmosphere.
On LinkedIn, Atmosphere DC Holdings LLC said it was founded in 2020. The company only began posting last year. Atmosphere CEO McBride was previously at Blue Owl-owned RadiusDC, leaving early last year, and has had stints at Vertiv, Integra, and consultant firm Critical Project Services. He has previously said the company is transforming former coal-fired power plants into data center sites, and has “8.5GW in our pipeline.”
In Maryland, the company is planning a 1GW campus across 170 acres in Dickerson (some 10 miles north of Ashburn) adjacent to a 2GW battery storage system. In South Carolina, the company is planning a 500MW campus on 500 acres in Moncks Corner. In Missouri, Atmosphere aims to build a 300MW campus on 300 acres in Kansas City. In Tennessee, the company is set to develop a 120MW campus on 38 acres in Nashville. Timelines for delivery for any of the projects weren’t shared.
Founded in 2009, London-based AGC is an alternative asset manager focused on real estate and private equity with some $6.5 billion in assets under management. Its previous investments include offices, logistics buildings, and student housing across the US and Europe. It acquired the Quantum Park data center development in Ashburn, Virginia, in 2016 for $193 million – though it has since changed hands. In 2020, the investment firm formed a €300m joint venture with Iron Mountain to develop a data center in Frankfurt, Germany.
