European operator AtlasEdge has started expansion work at its data center campus outside Hamburg, Germany.

The company has started the next expansion phase of HAM002 colocation data center located in Ahrensburg, northeast of Hamburg. It will add 3.2MW of capacity and is the second phase of a total of four.

On full completion, HAM002 will provide 10,000 sqm (107,640 sq ft) of facility space with a total power capacity of 20MW.

HAM002 (previously known as HAM1), the first phase of AtlasEdge’s second Hamburg data center, was opened in 2024 by DatacenterOne (DC1), a German colocation firm acquired by AtlasEdge in 2022. The first phase spans 3,500 sqm (37,675 sq ft) and has a capacity of 4.4MW. The facility is almost fully leased and is due to be operational in Q2 2027.

AtlasEdge DACH is the German, Swiss, and Austrian division of European data center company AtlasEdge. Designing, building, and operating data centers across 14 European locations, AtlasEdge is a joint venture founded in 2021 between telecoms company Liberty Global and asset management firm DigitalBridge.

AtlasEdge has eight data centers across Germany, operating two in Hamburg, HAM001 and HAM002. HAM001 is already operational and has 4MVA power available across 2,600 sqm (27,985 sq ft).

German colocation data center firm DC1 was founded in 2016. When AtlasEdge acquired it in 2022, it took over its four data centers.

Frankfurt is Germany’s primary hub for data centers, followed by Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. Hamburg is Germany’s second-largest city and is increasingly becoming a regional data center hub.
