Online versions of Blizzard's World of Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo videogames will now be hosted at AT&T data centers. The videogame maker and the data center and network services provider have expanded their relationship to include hosting services for these and other games in addition to call-center and content-distribution services AT&T has been providing for Blizzard.
AT&T will also provide connectivity services to support online games. The company first began focusing on the gaming industry in 2004, when it formed its Gaming Core Team to satisfy game companies' infrastructure needs over its IP network.
"Over the years, AT&T has demonstrated that it understands the needs of our business," Blizzard COO Paul Sams said in a statement. "The services and support AT&T provides have helped us to consistently deliver high-quality online-gaming experiences to our players."
World of Warcraft is the world's most popular subscription-based online role-playing game, according to an AT&T news release. The game, along with StarCraft and Diablo gained huge popularity after they were released in their single-player form during the 90's.
Blizzard and AT&T have worked together for about 10 years.
