Asia Pac interest in cloud computing rises
A report released by Springboard Research says that 45 percent of organizations in the Asia Pacific plan to use, or are already using, cloud computing. This was compared to 22 percent interviewed a year ago.

Springboard interviewed 474 CIOs, IT managers and line-of-business managers during a May 2010 exhibitio. It said its results showed that Australian and New Zealand companies were the most interested in the technology and that while small businesses could see benefits, they were still concerned with issues of security.

Verb IT opens HP's POD
Verb IT's HP POD data center has opened in New South Wales, Australia, and already it has a slew of customers including some of Australia's largest corporations and government operations in the state. The company said its data center is helping to meet the increasing data needs of the state, where older centers are having trouble powering capacity.

Verb IT is the first company to use HP's containerized data center solution in Australia.

Australian broadband provider brings on database experts
National broadband provider NBN Co in Australia said it has hired the former project manager for CSC and IBM, Neal O'Brian, to consolidate its corporate data center, according to itnews.com. au. It follows the appointment of former systems engineer with Thales Australia Mick Huxley, who is now on board as head of Microsoft architecture.

According to the report, O'Brien will work on brining all servers, storage, network and the broadband provider's database infrastructure together. The project follows the rollout of a new ERP system at the broadband provider.
