Latin American data center firm Ascenty has opened new data centers in Rio de Janeiro and Hortolândia, Brazil.
The company, jointly owned by Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, has launched a second facility at its Rio campus with an area of 3,000 sqm (32,300 sq ft) and 3MW of power, and a fourth in Hortolândia (SP) offering 2,000 sqm (21,500 sq ft) and 3MW. The two projects reportedly amount to an investment of BRL 160 million ($28.5m).
The Hortolândia campus now totals 13,000 sqm (140,000 sq ft) and 23MW, while Rio de Janeiro comprises 10,000 sqm (107,700 sq ft) and 13MW. The company now has 19 data centers in operation and eight under construction across Brazil, Chile, and Mexico.
"The city of Rio de Janeiro represents the second-largest economy in Brazil and, therefore, this inauguration further expands our capacity to meet the growing demand for investments from various national and foreign companies in the region,” said Roberto Rio Branco, VP of Ascenty's marketing and institutional relations. "In relation to Hortolândia, it is about providing a robust structure for an important industrial and technological hub, with a strategic geographic location in a market that is hot for the outsourcing of data center infrastructure, as well as for hybrid environments.”
Ascenty has raised $925 million in credit and announced plans to build five more data centers in Brazil in April. Hortolândia 5 and Sumaré 3 are expected to be completed in the first half of 2022; Hortolândia 6 and Sumaré 4 in H1 2023; and Sumaré 5 in 2024.
