Anthropic plans to sue the Trump administration after the company was labeled a supply-chain risk.

On Friday, US President Donald Trump declared that Federal contractors had six months to cease working with Anthropic after the AI company declined to change the terms of service that prohibited the use of its systems for mass domestic surveillance and support for fully autonomous weapons.

In a post on his own social media site, Trump said that the company had "made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution."

Despite Friday's calls for the immediate cessation of Anthropic products, Claude is believed to have been used to inform its attack on Iran that began the next day.

In a statement, Anthropic said it intended to challenge that decision in court.

“No amount of intimidation or punishment from the Department of War will change our position on mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. We will challenge any supply chain risk designation in court."

The designation has previously only ever been used against foreign companies, including China’s Huawei and ZTE Corporation, and Russia’s Kaspersky Lab.
