Generative AI business Anthropic plans to purchase $30 billion of Microsoft Azure compute capacity and to contract additional compute capacity of up to one gigawatt.
Anthropic will initially commit to using up to one gigawatt of compute capacity with Nvidia Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems.
At the same time, Microsoft and GPU designer Nvidia will both invest in Anthropic. Microsoft plans to invest up to $5 billion, while Nvidia has pledged up to $10bn.
Anthropic services will also be available on Microsoft Azure, with customers of Microsoft Foundry able to access Anthropic’s frontier Claude models, including Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5.
That makes Claude available on all three hyperscale cloud providers, with Anthropic now counting each of the hyperscalers as an investor.
Google was an early investor in Anthropic, and is believed to have given the company around $3 billion for a 14 percent stake.
Anthropic has long used Google Cloud for some of its model work, and this October the company announced a 1GW+ cloud deal with up to 1 million Google TPUs.
The generative AI company separately announced a $50bn data center investment at Fluidstack facilities – although they are the same sites Google operated out of, so it may be the same deal.
Amazon is also an Anthropic investor, pumping as much as $8bn into the company. In October, AWS launched the Project Rainier cluster featuring its own Trainium2 chips, for use by the AI firm. It plans to spend as much as $11 billion on the site at full buildout.
Microsoft's move to invest in Anthropic comes despite its early backing of OpenAI, which it now owns a 27 percent stake in, along with a 20 percent revenue share.
Nvidia also plans to invest $100bn into OpenAI.
