Chinese cloud provider Alibaba is expanding its data center footprint with eight new additions globally.

At the company’s Apsara Conference 2025 this week, Alibaba Cloud announced plans to launch its first data centers in Brazil, France, and the Netherlands, with additional data centers to be added in Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Dubai in the coming year.

Further details on any of the deployments were not shared.

Established in 2009, Alibaba Cloud (aka Aliyun) is the cloud division of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. Earlier this year, the company said it would invest $52.7bn expanding its cloud business.

Alibaba Cloud currently operates 91 availability zones across 29 regions globally, spanning mainland China, Asia, the US, South America, Europe, and the Middle East.

Alibaba entered Japan in 2016 and has three availability zones across Tokyo. In Seoul, South Korea, the firm has two availability zones. In Mexico, the firm has one zone that launched earlier this year. Alibaba has been present in Dubai since 2016 and operates two zones there. It has three zones in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During the company's Q1 2026 earnings results earlier this month, Alibaba’s "Cloud Intelligence Group" saw a total revenue of $4.662 billion, up 26 percent year-over-year (YoY). Within that, Alibaba said that AI-related revenue "maintained triple-digit year-over-year growth" - a rate it has maintained now for eight consecutive quarters. Revenue for the previous quarter was $4.152bn, up 18 percent YoY.
