US-based cloud security-as-a-service solutions provider Alert Logic has announced its expansion into EMEA by building its UK hub – which will include a data center and a Security Operations Centre – in the Welsh capital city, Cardiff.

Alert Logic said its expansion into EMEA will address growing demand for security and compliance solutions from European customers, providing local support for the needs of those businesses and industries.

The company deployed “honeypots” in public cloud infrastructures worldwide to observe the types and frequencies of attacks, as well as how the attacks vary geographically and gathered the results for its newest report.

Alert Logic’s Cloud Security Report Spring 2014 results show that Europe had the highest volume of honeypot attacks.

Alert Logic’s CEO Gray Hall said the expansion to EMEA was driven to by the results to provide better support for European customers.

“European customers are looking for high-quality, cloud-based security and compliance solutions that can address their unique needs,” Hall said.

Alert Logic said its expansion will cover three different dimensions- continued investment into the UK office by building out sales, marketing and support teams, provide local support for EMEA customers via its UK-based data center which is being constructed and the UK-based Security Operations Centre which is also being constructed.

The City of Cardiff is providing Alert Logic short-term accommodation at its Business Technology Centre in East Cardiff so it can begin its operations.

It is expected in October, Alert Logic will move into a 5,000 sq ft office space at No1 Capital Quarter in the Central Cardiff Enterprise Zone.

In order to accelerate the launch of its Cardiff headquarters, the Cardiff Business Council awarded Alert Logic a developmental grant to use in the creation of new jobs, the new data center and training programs.

“Cardiff became the natural choice for Alert Logic, due to its strong skills base, competitiveness and the city’s readiness to ensure we could establish our EMEA HQ quickly and easily," Hall said.

Cardiff Council leader, councillor Phil Bale said Cardiff is one of the freshest, fastest growing cities in Europe.

"...with the drive and ambition to attract international growth companies that depend on a ready pool of skilled employees and efficient transport and tech infrastructure. The city worked closely and quickly with Cardiff Business Council and the Welsh Government to secure this important employer for the region," Bale said.

Alert Logic has more than 300 UK customers, and partnerships with cloud and managed hosting provider in the UK including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Compute Engine and Rackspace.
