Indian conglomerate Adani is more than doubling its data center development pipeline.
The company this week announced plans to invest $100 billion in developing renewable-energy-powered, hyperscale AI-ready data centers by 2035.
Full details haven’t been provided, but the company noted this expanded roadmap builds on AdaniConneX's existing 2GW data center portfolio and pipeline, taking its total planned target to 5GW and combining renewable power and transmission.
Adani said the expansion is anchored by landmark partnerships with Google to establish a gigawatt-scale AI data center campus in Visakhapatnam, alongside additional campuses in Noida, and with Microsoft spanning Hyderabad and Pune.
The company said it would also deepen its data center partnership with Indian e-commerce company Flipkart, with plans to develop a second AI data center.
The group said it is also in discussion with other major players seeking to establish large-scale campuses across India.
"The world is entering an Intelligence Revolution more profound than any previous Industrial Revolution," said Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group. "Nations that master the symmetry between energy and compute will shape the next decade. India is uniquely positioned to lead. At Adani, we are building on our foundation in data centres and green energy to expand into the complete five-layer AI stack focused on India's technological sovereignty. India will not be a mere consumer in the AI age. We will be the creators, the builders, and the exporters of intelligence, and we are proud to be able to participate in that future."
Adani said the group would also be investing another $55bn to expand its renewable energy portfolio, which will include one of the world's largest battery energy storage systems (BESS) and developing its 30GW Khavda renewable solar and wind project, of which more than 10GW is already operational.
The Indian conglomerate also intends to co-invest in domestic manufacturing partnerships of critical infrastructure components, including high-capacity transformers, advanced power electronics, grid systems, inverters, and industrial thermal management solutions.
AdaniConneX is the joint venture (JV) between Adani Enterprises and EdgeConneX. First announced in February 2021, the two companies previously targeted delivering 1GW of hyperscale data center capacity throughout India.
The JV has projects in Chennai, Noida, Vizag, Hyderabad, Pune, and Mumbai.
