Adani Group, one of India’s largest companies, is exploring the potential of setting up nuclear energy plants to power its artificial intelligence data center ambitions.

According to reporting from Nikkei Asia, Adani is looking to invest significant capital in building out its data center portfolio. The company said that the development of nuclear energy to power data centers would be closely tied to industry demand. If realized, the company said that it would build and own the plants, but outsource the reactor.

"Data centers is very, very big. What we had assumed we would do in 2030, we have already crossed, and the amount of demand that's coming in keeps rising," Jeet Adani, director of Adani Digital Labs, told Nikkei Asia.

Earlier this month, Adani Group announced that it was set to invest up to $5 billion in a Google data center campus in Visakhapatnam, located in southern India.

The company is looking to develop AI data centers with a capacity of more than one gigawatt across the country, including in cities such as Vizag, Navi Mumbai, Noida, and Hyderabad, according to Adani.

To power the facilities, Adani said that the company is also prepared to utilize its renewable energy capacity to support the data centers. Its subsidiary, Adani Green Energy, is the biggest renewable energy provider in the country, with an operational capacity of more than 16.5GW.

"We have the ability to give as much renewable electricity as any of the hyperscalers would want," Adani said. "We have the ability to develop [infrastructure] fast, and develop [them] modularly."

India’s data center pipeline is much larger than its current capacity. According to DC Byte, as of April 2025, the country only offers 1.2GW of live capacity in comparison to the 7.7GW worth of data centers under construction, committed, and in their early stages, with the latter category constituting 57 percent of the country’s total supply.

"If India plays its cards right, it can easily convince the hyperscalers to build 10GW of data center capacity in the next five years," Adani said. "I see 50GW of renewable electricity coming just from the data centers."
