An abandoned telephone exchange building has been blown up in Pakistan.

As reported by Dawn, an improvised explosive device (IED) had been planted along the side of the building by unidentified armed men last Friday (October 31).

The abandoned telephone exchange building is located in the Lakki Marwat district, bordering South Waziristan.

No casualties were reported by local police, though the building was severely damaged in the explosion. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Further details around the explosion were scarce, though Dawn reported that in a separate incident that terrorists in the region have kidnapped a police official from the Havaid Adda area of Bannu district.

The South Waziristan region borders neighboring Afghanistan, which has been engaged in a conflict with Pakistan in recent weeks.

Pakistan has also notably seen a surge in terrorist attacks in parts of the country, which have mainly seen government infrastructure, law enforcement personnel, and security forces targeted.
