Data center design is changing rapidly. AI and high-performance computing are driving unprecedented rack and power densities, and lithium-ion batteries are playing an increasingly important role in critical infrastructure. As these technologies evolve, so do the fire risks and the challenges associated with protecting increasingly valuable and energy-dense environments.

The changing risk profile raises an important question: Are we still designing fire protection around yesterday's data center?

This session will examine how densification, evolving equipment configurations and lithium-ion energy storage are influencing fire protection strategies. It will explore the factors owners, operators and engineers should consider when evaluating fire protection strategy.

The discussion will also address one of the most important and often overlooked parts of evaluating alternative fire protection: the path to AHJ acceptance. From code basis and applicable standards to testing, engineering and early engagement with the AHJ.
