Microgrids are increasingly being used as a potential solution to address the “speed to power” challenge brought about by large load demand and the corresponding infrastructure constraints in the US. Many of these microgrids are being developed as on-site stand-alone facilities with generation and load dedicated to a single purpose or facility.

Compared to these facilities, Synergistic Microgrid models could potentially provide cost and reliability benefits by including a comprehensive optimized portfolio of community loads and resources along with the dedicated large load facilities. By combining a wider range of resources optimally, the expanded microgrid could be more cost effective due to synergies from a broader resource base while maintaining the same level of reliability as a dedicated facility. Join Shiv Mani to discuss potential benefits of synergistic microgrids concept and the market structures that would need to be developed to realize these benefits.
