Over the past decade, Chile has established itself as one of the most dynamic markets for data center development in Latin America. The combination of a favorable investment environment, a mature telecommunications infrastructure, and access to renewable energy are some of the factors that have driven the arrival of global operators and the sustained growth of installed capacity.
The sector's expansion also responds to the increased demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, digital commerce, and data processing. Today, the country is home to some of the region's most important digital infrastructure projects, with over US$4 billion in announced investments for new data centers and expansions. This is further bolstered by the National Data Center Plan, which aims to mobilize an additional US$2.5 billion and triple the country's installed capacity over the next five years.
Chile also stands out for the strength of its digital infrastructure. It boasts nearly 62,000 kilometers of fiber optic cable, connections to approximately 69,000 kilometers of submarine cables, and one of the most advanced 5G networks in Latin America. These conditions enable it to offer low latency, high availability, and strategic connectivity to serve both the local market and the rest of the region. As a result, installed data center capacity grew from 35 MW in 2013 to nearly 198 MW in 2023, a trend that will continue with the commissioning of new projects.
With this vision, the Government launched the National Data Center Plan, a roadmap aimed at strengthening the sector's competitiveness through simplified permitting, coordination between public and private entities, territorial and energy planning, and the incorporation of sustainability standards. The goal is to consolidate Chile as a digital hub for Latin America, capable of attracting new investments and responding to the growth of technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services.
In this context, Chile's participation as the guest region offers an opportunity to learn firsthand about an ecosystem that combines infrastructure, connectivity, sustainability, and a long-term development strategy. This model is positioning the country as one of the leading destinations for digital infrastructure investment in Latin America.
