Data centers consume enough power that they regularly cause headaches for local electric utilities when requests for new service are submitted, particularly when those same utilities are trying to meet greenhouse gas standards. However, the same load that makes data centers challenging also allows them to be a force for good.  From new and highly efficient cooling technologies, to electric load flexibility based on integrated energy storage, to renewable generation that also helps guarantee uptime, novel deployments of mature technologies can help data centers be a force for good in moving to an overall decarbonized grid.
