A gunman entered an ABB transformer manufacturing plant in St. Louis, Miss., and shot at several people, killing some and injuring others.

According to St. Louis police, eight victims had been counted as of Thursday morning. Three of the victims were dead and three of the remaining five were in critical condition, according to a statement issued by the local police department.

An ABB representative said the company's management did not have any information beyond that provided by the police. "Police in St. Louis has issued some information and at this point we really don't have any additional information," ABB spokesman Thomas Schmidt said.

Police received a call reporting a shooting at the plant at 6:30 a.m. CST. Upon arrival at the scene, officers were told the shooter entered the building carrying an assault rifle and a handgun and had shot several people.

Police had not released any more information about the incident as of Thursday afternoon, as they continued investigation.

ABB is a global manufacturer of industrial-grade electrical equipment, some of whose products are widely deployed in data centers. One of the clients is Microsoft, whose new data center in Dublin uses an ABB power plant.

UPDATE 3: The killer has been named as Timothy Hendron, a 51 year old employee at the plant. Reports say he was among the plaintiffs in a legal case over retirement plans at the company though police have refused to speculate on any motive. Hendron lived locally to the plant with his wife and teenage son.

UPDATE 2: One of the five victims taken to a hospital had been treated and released. Police also said the suspect was carrying a shotgun in addition to the previously reported assault rifle and a handgun.

UPDATE 1: St. Louis police have determined that the suspect was a current employee at the factory. He was one of the four people that were found dead at the site of the incident.

Police said in a statement that the suspect (unnamed until positive identification by next of kin) died from "what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound." The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
