NTT Facilities (NTTF), a subsidiary of the giant Japanese telco NTT, will buy a majority stake in Singapore-based Pro-Matrix Pte Ltd.

NTTF specializes in mission-critical telecoms buildings with experience in power supplies and mechanical equipment, while Pro-Matrix is a data center facility-engineering specialist based in Singapore that specializes in turnkey solutions and data center project management.

The acquisition is expected to help NTTF expand its presence in Southeast Asia and consolidate its business, and is part of NTTF’s plan to build up its engineering capabilities to provide integrated and comprehensive facility services. The goal is to accumulate business bases that offer a full line of engineering capabilities to help support its global expansion.

Pro-Matrix is currently led by managing director Desmond Teo, and generated revenues of SG$30.5 million (US$24.4) for FY2013. It hopes to enhance its business scope with the backing of NTTF and its expertise in data center facility design and maintenance.

The deal could give both companies growth opportunities in integrated data center facility engineering, within Singapore, a rapidly growing market, and a regional IT hub where many international telecoms carriers have constructed purpose-built datacenter facilities.

Singapore is one of the key data center growth markets in the Asia Pacific region, and a recent Asia-Pacific Data Center Index published by IDC has listed the small nation state at the number two spot out of 13 countries for its suitability for new and outsourced data centers.

Singapore markets itself aggressively as a data center hub, and DCD FOCUS had previously reported on the development of an ambitious data center park that is envisioned to house at least half a dozen new data centers when it is completed in 2015.
