With GPU capacity tightening and contract terms stretching, Shadeform today launched Flex VMs, a virtualization layer that can take any GPU cluster, regardless of data center and architecture, turn it into single-tenant virtual machines, and connect it to Shadeform's marketplace, paired with a fast and easy onboarding flow that lets compute providers enroll nodes in about 30 minutes once approved.
Flex VMs gives hardware owners a way to turn a bare-metal GPU node into an on-demand cloud. Each node runs single-tenant virtual machines with full GPU passthrough and no overcommit, so buyers get dedicated performance while providers stay in control: nodes can be pulled back at any time, and Provider Priority lets providers run their own workloads on their nodes.
Onboarding is built to be fast and easy: a hardware owner signs up, generates an enrollment key, and runs a short script that registers the machine using only its IP address and an SSH key. Shadeform's team reviews each submission, and once a node is approved it is enrolled in about 30 minutes, replacing what used to require a full sales conversation.
The goal is to make it as fast and easy as possible for compute owners, from independent data centers to teams with spare capacity, to put their hardware to work on Shadeform, growing the supply that feeds the marketplace and Spot.
Once a node is on the platform, providers can make it available for resale the moment it's sitting idle, with a single click. It's instant and needs none of the manual coordination other marketplaces require to resell underutilized capacity.
Listing on Spot is optional, though Shadeform estimates that offsetting idle time with Spot can reduce total contract value up to 29 percent. Shadeform’s current roster of Flex VMs has achieved more than 95 percent utilization across Blackwell and Hopper series GPUs on the platform.
“A lot of platforms say they can resell your underutilized GPUs, but that's usually a manual process on their end. We actually built the mechanism to make it self-serve: once your GPU is onboarded, the minute you don't need it, you can make it available for reselling with the click of a button,” said Ronald Ding, CTO of Shadeform.
