Nostrum Group, through Nostrum Data Centers has reached a decisive milestone in the consolidation and maturation of its BAZ-01 data center project in Badajoz with the filing of the major works permit application for Phase I with the city council of Badajoz.

Phase I contemplates 170MWe of capacity, as part of a project with secured land and power for 50MWe, designed to be scalable up to 1GW. The second phase of the development is scheduled to be submitted in June 2027, in line with the project’s phased execution strategy.

The application includes the basic project “NOS-BAZ1 Badajoz Data Center," covering auxiliary buildings and internal urbanization works, and formally activates the municipal technical and urban planning review process.

It is worth noting that, although the major works permit application refers to Phase I, the electrical infrastructure has been designed and processed for the full 500MWe, ensuring that grid infrastructure does not become a critical path for subsequent phases.

Applications for the corresponding prior administrative authorizations (AAP) have been submitted at both national (MITECO) and regional (Junta de Extremadura) levels.

BAZ-01 is classified as a PREMIA project, allowing for accelerated administrative timelines and reinforcing execution certainty.

Nostrum Group does not anticipate any material regulatory surprises, having developed the environmental, technical, and urban planning studies in close coordination with regional authorities, where potential showstoppers have already been identified and ruled out. The project is expected to reach ready-to-build (RtB) and shovel-ready status in September 2026.

From a technical standpoint, BAZ-01 has been designed to support high-density workloads, including the latest artificial intelligence GPU architectures, ensuring long-term competitiveness and alignment with next-generation computing requirements.

AECOM has been appointed as the lead engineering firm, reinforcing the technical robustness and bankability of the project.

In parallel, Nostrum Data Centers is actively working with leading equipment suppliers, ensuring a highly competitive time-to-market without compromising the highest standards of technical excellence and operational reliability.

“The filing of the major works permit for BAZ-01 is much more than an administrative procedure: it is a clear signal of planning rigor, and execution capability. The BAZ-01 data center is expected to reach the market in Q4 2027, meeting the demands of the most ambitious offtake schedule. The vision of the company is to mimic a similar scale and agility of the large US campuses, but in Europe.
