According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), global data center electricity consumption is projected to more than double between 2023 and 2028, reaching 857 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2028.
In the midst of an unprecedented demand for increased power capacity to supply the rising data center demand worldwide, Rehlko, a global leader in energy resilience, is strategically positioned to offer more sustainable solutions to data center operators.
Rehlko, formerly Kohler Energy, has more than 100 years of experience in delivering expertise to power the world’s most critical industries. As the team looks to the future, it’s prioritizing pairing traditional power sources with sustainable solutions that maintain reliability and resiliency.
In 2025, Rehlko plans to increase its sustainability offerings for customers in various ways, including:
- Further enhancing its Conscious Care maintenance program, which enables data center operators to exercise their emergency generators at no load and extend the load interval to every four months. The program has already led to significant reductions in fuel consumption, noise and air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy costs for Rehlko customers, and the program expansion will strengthen its capabilities.
- Continued support of its recent achievement: the introduction of the first Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for the KD Series generator set for mission-critical markets. This declaration, part of the PEP ecopassport program, represents a comprehensive approach to understanding and reducing the carbon footprint of a generator.
- Sustaining its ongoing partnership with the iMasons, Rehlko recently helped establish the “Data Centers As A Good Neighbor” working group alongside Schneider Electric and a plethora of other engaged data center stakeholders. This initiative will become a cornerstone of a developing Social Accord, with the goal to address the challenges data center owners and operators face in demonstrating their value to the communities in which they are located.
- Strengthening and investing in new technologies, like Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and hydrogen fuel cells, to help customers achieve resiliency goals without sacrificing climate-related objectives.
“Our goal is to focus on meeting customers where they are with the backup power solutions that best suit their needs, whether that is with traditional large-scale diesel generators or with added alternative offerings that advance their sustainability goals,” said Ryan Baumann, vice president of sales, power solutions for the Americas at Rehlko.
“At Rehlko, we are committed to putting our customers first while also driving forward our mission to create a more energy-resilient and environmentally sustainable world for the future.”
