UK renewable energy firm Vital Energi has joined a new energy business park and data center project in East Riding of Yorkshire, UK.

Located off the Humber river outside Hull, the Yorkshire Energy Park will is a 212-acre site that will include energy generation, battery storage, substation office and startup space, education center, and amenities for locals including a sports center.

The £200 million ($274.4m) development on the former Hedon Aerodrome site also plans to build a Tier III, 600 rack colocation facility in the park, due for construction in 2022. Asanti Datacentres Limited, a UK Edge data center firm, is involved as part of the development.

The park, which gained approval from local councils last year, will be part of the Humber Free port, one of a number of low tax special economic zones set up at ports cities around the country. Construction work is due to begin soon and the park should open in 2023.

Vital Energi is a decarbonization, energy generation, and distribution company operating across the UK. Its previous projects includes city district heating schemes and energy generation and management schemes at hospitals and universities. As well as investing in the project, Vital will take a lead on the development’s energy strategy.
