Xsigo, the company behind server i/o hardware and software, has launched a new virtualized server fabric it said removes hardware constraints and costs and increases time to market for cloud-optimized data centers.
It believes the Xsigo Server Fabric is the first solution of its type on the market enabling "one-click network connections from virtual machines to any data center resource – including servers, networks, storage and other virtual machines".
Xsigo CEO Lloyd Carney said instead of trying to tie together traditional solutions using a fabric, it instead works on a virtualized infrastructure.
It said this means customers can flexibly deploy Ethernet and fiber-channel connections at speeds of up to 40Gbps, while environments can be scaled to 1,000 physical hosts with tens of thousands of virtual connections linking virtual machines and network and storage resources.
The Fabric itself is also interoperable with Cisco, Brocade, Juniper and other network products.
Xsigo said it believes this means services can be brought o market ten times faster at about half the cost of previous solutions.
Yankee Group analyst Zeus Kerravala said cloud computing has changed the networking space, giving rise to demand for flexible and efficient switch and port-based management tools.
"The cloud computing era places demands on data center infrastructure that cannot be met through traditional networking technologies," Kerravala said.
"Xsigo’s Server Fabric technology change all this by addressing the desperate market need to fully integrate resources while also providing unprecedented levels of simplification through software."
Xsigo has a demo of its new server fabric that can be viewed on its home page here.
