Dutch IP provider, XS4ALL, is switching to sustainable energy for use in its datacenter. The datacenter is the central point of XS4ALL's customer data storage (mail boxes and websites) and all data traffic that goes through it. Datacenters use a huge amount of energy for the supply to and the cooling of the computer and network equipment. XS4ALL's datacenter uses approximately the same amount of energy as 1000 family homes.
On top of that, XS4ALL's datacenter will be connected to the Nuon's cold water supply facility. This cold water supply takes some of the pressure off the existing cooling system, resulting in a 30 percent drop in energy consumption.
Sustainable energy is a logical step in XS4ALL's strive towards better internet. The sustainable energy costs will not be charged back in the subscription costs. Neither will customers that have their own server housed in our datacenter be presented with an extra bill. XS4ALL will provide hosting customers with a sustainable energy certificate on the placement of new servers.
