As reported by Security Brief, the agreement aims to support World Aquatics’ global digital operations and data strategy with cloud services and AI technology.

Husain Al Musallam, president of World Aquatics, said: "This is a significant step forward for World Aquatics. Alibaba Cloud brings not only global cloud coverage and proven technical expertise, but also a great understanding of the demands of international sport on digital platforms. This partnership will allow us to scale our operations, improve our platforms' stability, enhance data security, and serve our community more effectively."

Selina Yuan, president of international business at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, added: "We are thrilled to reach this significant milestone in collaboration with World Aquatics. Alibaba Cloud is dedicated to driving the digital transformation of global sports through our leading AI and cloud computing technologies.

"This exclusive partnership not only showcases our long-standing commitment to sports innovation, but also creates new opportunities to elevate the aquatic sports experience for athletes, organizations, and fans worldwide."

In addition to migrating its core services, World Aquatics will also launch a new web platform and mobile application for athletes and fans based on Alibaba Cloud.

The organization will also use Alibaba Cloud's AI technology across different platforms and solutions to improve efficiency.

It has not been stated which cloud region World Aquatics will host its operations in, but Alibaba has European regions in Germany and the UK.

World Aquatics is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. The organization currently governs six aquatic sports: swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving.

In June 2025, Alibaba Cloud announced that GoTo Group had migrated its digital payments unit to the cloud platform.

Alibaba Cloud has been rapidly expanding its operations outside of China. The company launched a third data center in Malaysia in July 2025, and a second data center in South Korea in June 2025. Other locations include a new region in Mexico and a second data center in Thailand. The Chinese cloud company is planning another data center in the Philippines, set to go live in October of this year.
