A building that used to house Spotted Eagle High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is being demolished to accommodate construction of a 45,000 sq ft data center, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
The project is by a band of Potawatomi Native Americans called Forest County Potawatomi Community. The Potawatomi Business Development Corp. (PBDC) plans to start construction in April.
Pepi Randolph, the business development corporation’s CEO, told the Journal Sentinel that the project was a way to add income options for Potawatomi tribes.
“As part of PBDC’s mission to diversify the tribes’ portfolio beyond gaming, we believe building and operating a data center is an attractive opportunity that will serve a growing and unmet need in the southeastern Wisconsin business community,” Randolph said.
The business development organization has hired New Age Data Center Solutions to operate the facility once its built. Dan McGrath, who works at New Age, told the Journal Sentinel that the future facility’s owners had not yet found an anchor tenant for the facility, but that there were many interested parties.
The facility will operate as Data Holdings and will provide colocation space. It will also support business and tribal government operations of the Forest County Potawatomi Community.
