FibreCo, the fiber optic joint venture resulting from the merger between MasOrange and Vodafone's fiber units, has appointed Blanca Ceña as CEO.

The Spanish executive worked at Vodafone between 1995 and 2020, returning to lead the operation between two of the country's largest telecommunications companies. For the last five years, she has been managing director at Vodafone's tower division, Vantage Towers.

Formed last month, MasOrange currently owns 58 percent of the joint venture, Vodafone Spain 17 percent, and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC has held 25 percent of the capital since last August.

Both operators will contribute approximately 12 million real estate units and close to 5 million customers to the new FiberCo, guaranteeing the exclusivity of the network for both and maintaining the operation of their respective infrastructures.

In March 2024, MásMóvil and France's Orange merged to form MásOrange, creating Spain's largest telecommunications company valued at approximately €19 billion ($22bn) and covering nearly 37 million mobile and fixed customers.

Vodafone sold its Spanish business to UK investment firm Zegona for €5bn ($5.7bn) last year, though the firm continues to trade under the name Vodafone in the country.
