The center will house 120 racks of data storage and computing equipment needed to support the latest DNA sequencers.
Genome sequencing technology has rapidly advanced since the center began its work in 1990, when sequencing a simple organism took eight years and more than $50 million. Today, that same work could be completed in two or three days at a cost of about $5,000.
The new data center is expected to meet the center's computing needs "for the next several years.
